ATLANTA - Georgians will be free to use deadly force to defend themselves in public areas, under a new state law that takes effect Saturday.

Backed by the National Rifle Association, the law essentially extends the "castle doctrine" to sidewalks, parking lots and other public places. It makes it clear that a person can shoot first if they believe they are in imminent danger.

Critics contend it's an invitation to violence and has echoes of the wild West.

This law is fantastic...killing a pregnant women is two murders....there so much to read here....I'm moving to Georgia

umm, I like Ohio well enough. I think that law might be going too far, but if I see someone jumping my fence I would have no problem shooting them or running outside with a broadsword.

They should enforce the paedophiles retriction laws at bus stops too. That would leave them with very little places to stay.

However, I fully agree with their law regarding the killing of a pregnant woman as a murder of two people.
