CNN editorial.

https://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/14/martin.campaign/index.html

"Do you know what was so great about Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan? They were three of the biggest trash talkers in the history of the NBA, but they had the game to back it up.

Somebody should tell that to Gov. Sarah Palin."

" Since she is good at proclaiming that the American people need to know who Barack Obama is -- an attempt to paint him as a shady figure who might occupy the White House -- the American people deserve to hear Palin answer if her husband, Todd, a former member of the Alaska Independence Party, agreed with its founder, who wanted to secede from the union.

Is there anything more anti-American than wanting to sever ties with the country?"

I thought the tough question was "What is the Bush Doctrine" maybe that has gone the way of " Are you free on Fridays?"

Well, one must first accept that the views of Tod are not necessarily the views of Sarah. It is all too easy to read this as 'Sarah Palin supports the secession of Alaska'.

At one and the same time it is folly to assume that one's spouse does not have an influence over our opinions.

I think that this is an important question to answer. The following points in combination make me jumpy -

* A VP espousing 'drill baby drill' as the answer to our energy problems
* Vast quantities of oil present under Alaska
* A VP with connections, albeit via her spouse, to a political party with secession as a central tenet

It's unlikely that secession from the Union would result, even if McCain/Palin got into power, McCain died, Palin became president, Alaska was drilled more than Thai ladyboy on a Navy base, and Todd Palin supported secession. But hell, when you can draw a line that straight through those issues, does it make sense to put this person into the White House?

And of course the views of Ayers are not the views of Obama, even if they are best of friends. But Palin is implying that they are, so it would be a little intellectually dishonest of her to say that her husband's views don't matter to her politics but Ayers' views obviously matter to Obama's.

Agreed, one must be prepared to come under the same scrutiny one would place others under.
