Hi guys
What I know about the legal industry is shocking but my bf is almost finished with his studies so I am constantly browsing the net for some good news for him. It doesn?t look like jobs will magically open up in the next year or am I missing the good news signs?
I read an article about a firm who selected most of their partners from overseas associates. What does this mean for the UK?

I'm in the US and I'm a legal admin.

I can't tell you much for the industry as a whole, because I work in a city that hasn't so much crumbled under the current economy, more like...dwindled a bit. Some areas of law are doing extremely well. Estate and tax planning (which is what I do) is going strong. Real estate isn't doing so well. It seems to depend on the area of law how well the job market is doing!

Thanks Wingsy, I am really happy it?s going better in your city in the US. I think I will have to agree with Markfox01 (although I desperately want to believe you Salinaa)
But if there is a reality shock this article from Legal Week is surely it!
Couldn?t they have been more honest earlier?
It is a good thing they tell prospective students this because some of them only go to study legal because it has always proved to look good on a CV and the jobs were highly paid and if you had the degree you could work at any firm not only a legal firm but ANY firm that needs someone to do the company?s legal matters. But now everybody is outsourcing?and seemingly to INDIA?how unfair is that!!!!
On the positive side I think it still does look good on your CV if you?ve got a degree in law and although he might not get his dream legal job next year he might someday still. No one can take away his degree!

Jeanne are that many people really out sourcing legal matters to India? That seems a bitr unfair doesn't it? I mean surely legal matters for each country are better being handled in that country itself?

I think you are right about the legal degree though - a lot of people do seem to do the degree and follow other paths afterwards! I have seen a few people with legal degrees on other career paths - it does look good on your CV regardless

Lawyers, doctors, midwives and undertakers will always remain in demand. His choice of area of work is all important. He could always look for work in smaller towns like Newcastle etc. The situation may not be so bad there.
He could tie up with immigrant consultants and help people get into the US or others to get into the UK. This I know is a thriving business which requires legal vetting.
